CHAIR REPORT – MAY 2018

I’m an alcoholic, member of the Tamarac Group, and my name is Al. My sobriety date is March 2, 2004. I am honored to serve as your District 9 Chairperson. The next Assembly will be at the Tampa Airport Marriott, July 6th – 8th. Flyers are on the table and the District website for download. It is our first time there and should be exciting.

On May 5th we held our Old Timer’s event with 3 Speakers that had 35 years or more of Sobriety to share their experience, strength, and hope. We had a better turnout from last year but could use more help on the Archives Committee with GSRs getting more involved. We had one Committee with their display. Thank you PI/CPC for carrying the message. The event was loaded with newcomers which was encouraging but could use more participation in Twelve Step work. More from Thomas a little later in the meeting.

The Gratitude Dinner planning meeting was held on April 29th at the Twelve Step House where committee chairs were selected. More from Tracie a little later. Planning is also underway for the Founder’s Day Picnic on June 3rd at Snyder Park. Joey will provide more details a little later. Flyers for all events are on the District Website to download and on the table to bring to your groups. Jackie is sending around a sign in list for the Delegate Luncheon on July 15th in the Cafeteria with food at noon and our Delegate report to follow at 2:00pm. Please try to attend and bring a dish. It’s always a fun and informative event.

I pray that everyone is thinking and talking about what District positions you may want to hold when we have our October elections. I hope GSR enthusiasm is not waning as there is much work to do. Please consider stepping up to ACM and stay in the District to help fulfill its needs. Last month we talked about hosting an Assembly for 2019. Subsequent to the April District Meeting it was determined in the best interest of the District that we will request to Host the October Assembly at the Boca Marriott in lieu of the April Assembly. For it to be successful, we need people to step up for the following positions; all Officer Positions, Finance, Grapevine, Institution Liaison, Intergroup Liaison, Room/Ride Coordinator, and Support Your Services. Officers, and Standing Committees such as Finance, and Grapevine are 2 year terms, all others are 1 year with the eligibility to stand for a second year. See your Guidelines or one of your Officers for details. We have always been the District that Area goes to when they need help due to our experience so please let’s not let the Area down and step up for a position. Don’t be afraid as God does not choose the qualified in so much as God qualifies the chosen so please pray and talk to your sponsor and step up.
