I’m an alcoholic, member of the Tamarac Group, and my name is Al. My sobriety date is March 2, 2004. I am gifted to serve as your District 9 Chairperson. The Area Assembly was held October 6-8th right here in Fort Lauderdale at the Marriot North. Thank you Richard S, the committee, and all the other volunteers for putting in endless hours and dedication in support of District 9 and the Area. Many thanks to all that attended. Our Speakers were amazing. We had 18 GSRs & 7 Alt GSRs who fulfilled their responsibilities to their Home Group by attending the Sunday Business Meeting. District DCMs/ACMs were there in force doing the deal. Awesome…. We had a total of 40 votes. It truly added to an educated Group Conscience during a spirited business meeting. We had 3 motions and 3 time sensitive motions. We also voted for the remaining Assemblies from July 2018 to April 2020. The next Assembly is at the Sarasota Hyatt January 5-7, 2018. Flyers are available on the table and on the District or Area websites for printing. I will be asking our Website Committee to put them on the Calendar. They will also be posted in the Area Minutes and on the Area Website. Please see your Subdistrict DCM/ACM for what transpired, what passed, and what failed. Just remember you can’t be responsible if you don’t attend and give your group a voice. The Area is contributing to Hurricane Relief for those Areas that had facilities and resources destroyed. Please see our Literature Rep if you would like to be involved on a Group or Individual level. On that note we had to cancel our Spaghetti Dinner due to the Hurricane. Our Support your Services Chair Joey B is reconciling the costs and in need of a permanent Co-Chair so if you want to be a part of some great events by giving back please see Joey. Briefly, we have written a short statement that GSRs can read in their Home Group regarding the tickets that have been purchased. “We want to thank you all who purchased tickets to the Spaghetti Dinner in advance. We hope you are all safe and no one was injured. All life is sacred and should be cherished. Going forward, we would like to offer that (1) anyone who purchased a ticket to the Spaghetti Dinner will have that ticket honored at the Winterfest Event with our appreciation or (2) anyone who has a ticket and wants to have their money refunded just needs to present the ticket to Joey our Support your Services Chair prior to the Winterfest event being held on December 2, 2017. Our next event will be Early Timers hosted by the Archive Committee on October 21st and then the Gratitude Dinner on November 10th. More will be revealed later in the meeting. There are 2 District positions open. We are in need of a PI/CPC Chair and an Intergroup Liaison to help carry the message. We will hold these elections together with our October Elections during New Business, Don’t be afraid to try something new as you have the whole District behind you. Today we will be holding our District Elections for the following positions starting in January 2018; Archives, Literature, PI/CPC, Accessibilities, Website, Intergroup Liaison, Institutions Liaison, Room/Ride Coordinator, Support Your Services, and Carry the Message Day. If you are standing for either PI/CPC or Intergroup Liaison those positions start today and that time between now and the end of the year does not affect your term starting in January 2018. I’d like to welcome all who are new today and encourage you all – whether you are new or seasoned veterans in service – to find an area of service you may like in our District and lend a hand. We are blessed with an active and enthusiastic District here in Broward County. The last planning meeting for the Gratitude Dinner is October 29th at CRPC where we still have positions open for volunteers. Tickets will be available. Chairperson’s announcement – Hurricane Irma

With Florida being at a State of Emergency due to the coming of Hurricane Irma I would personally encourage everyone to do whatever they can to protect themselves and their love ones from this terrible storm. Y’all in the District keep us going in carrying the message so please prepare and be safe. Also keep an eye on Jose he seems to be tagging on Irma’s shirt tails. God Bless.

Nova University has stated that the Campus will be closed until further notice starting Thursday, September 7th and will not reopen until the threat from the Hurricane has passed.

It was not only prudent but necessary that our Spaghetti Dinner scheduled for this Saturday evening had to be canceled. The planning meeting scheduled for Wednesday, September 6th is also canceled to allow people time to prepare. More information will be available after the  Hurricane passes and the District meets to determine the best way to proceed and go forward.

I’m an alcoholic, member of the Tamarac Group, and my name is Al. My sobriety date is March 2, 2004. I am gifted to serve as your District 9 Chairperson. Carry the Message Day was held on Saturday, August 12, 2017 right here at Nova. Thank you all that attended. Thomas put on a real good event with enthusiastic and informational messages given by Susan P of BCIC, Mary S from Intergroup Main Office, and our own Heather M. More from Thomas later in this meeting. We have a fun event coming up with the Spaghetti Dinner on September 9th. Who makes the best meatball? I hope to see everyone there. Joey B will tell us more about it a little later in his report. There are 2 District positions open. We are in need of a PI/CPC Chair and an Intergroup Liaison to help carry the message. If you have any interest in these positions, please talk to you sponsor, your service sponsor, and your higher power. Remember God doesn’t call the qualified God qualifies the called. Don’t be afraid to try something new as you have the whole District behind you. The next Assembly is at the Fort Lauderdale Marriott North right here in Broward County, October 6th thru the 9th. Also in October please remember we will be having District Elections for a few positons starting in January 2018 such as Archives, Literature, PI/CPC, Room/Ride Coordinator, Accessibilities, Support Your Services, Institutions Liaison, and Intergroup Liaison. Please give some thought and prayer to where you may be of service next year. If you are considering standing for a Committee Chair, feel free to ask the person currently in that position to see what is involved. I’d like to welcome all who are new today and encourage you all – whether you are new or seasoned veterans in service – to find an area of our District to lend a hand. Chair Report – JULY 2017

I’m an alcoholic, member of the Tamarac Group, and my name is Al. My sobriety date is March 2, 2004. I am honored to serve as your District 9 Chairperson. We held our Unity XII Breakfast on Saturday, June 24th. The event was sold out, the food was great, and the Speaker our own Trish C-K was amazing. Thank you Karen with Copy Kat Audio for doing the taping at the event. All those who attended the Breakfast, I’d so would like to thank you for service. We are stilling having planning meetings for the Gratitude Dinner, the October Assembly hosted by District 9, and Carry the Message Day. Support your Services also started planning for the Spaghetti Dinner, more from Joey B in his report. All committees are in need of volunteers so please feel free to attend and get involved in all the fun. The next Assembly is next week at the Hyatt Sarasota, July 21st thru the 23rd. Flyers are available on the District or Area websites for printing. Don’t forget the 61st Florida State Convention being held in Jacksonville on July 27th – July 30th the following week. The theme is “Love in Action”. Hope to see you all there. We still need a PI/CPC Chair and an Intergroup Liaison. One last thing I would like to mention is that many of you are aware of the legal attention taken by the General Service Board (GSB) and AAWS regarding the return of the 1939 Printer’s Copy of the Manuscript (“the working manuscript” as it was called had many handwritten comments written by many members of AA). No one can deny that it is a very precious item of AA History that created the foundation of this program. I would like to encourage everyone to become as educated as possible as to why New York took legal action for the return of the Manuscript. This was not done lightly so please do not jump to any conclusions or opinions one way or the other until you have prayed after reading or hearing the facts regarding this action. As you know there are many ways to hurt AA and gossip is one of them. Unity XII Breakfast Report – JULY 2017

I’m an alcoholic, member of the Tamarac Group, and my name is Al. The Unity XII Breakfast was held June 24th at the Plantation United Methodist Church at 9:00am. It was a sold out event with an amazing story delivered by our own Trish C-K. Many thanks to Karen V and Copy Kat Audio who provided the taping for this event. If you didn’t have a chance to be there and hear Trish in person you can see Karen to purchase a CD for your own use. The food was great and it went off smoothly. Our menu included eggs, bacon, sausage, home fries, coffee, water, juice, and croissants. We had some leftover food which was gladly accepted by the Church for their homeless. Any extra supplies was purchased by District 9 for our Support your Services events in the form of Spaghetti Dinner Tickets in lieu of cash. Thank you Joey B for that super idea. We provided 4 tickets to BCIC & 4 tickets to Intergroup. We had our wrap-up meeting at the 12 Step House July 8th at 9:00 am. When all was said and done, each entity received contributions of $358.94. One is of concern for next year is that the church is restructuring their facilities rental program. We don’t know what the revised rental fee will be but a bigger concern is that they now state that they reserve the right to cancel the rental at any time no guarantees especially Saturday mornings. So, it may be prudent that everyone be on the lookout for a facility with a kitchen that can accommodate 250-300 people. We don’t want to get stuck with over $600 in food on our hands and no place to go. Our rent using the church for this event was a bargain at $350 and we realize that we may have to pay more next year. I asking that you please bring any possible locations for this event to our attention for consideration. It would be greatly appreciated. Chair Report – June 2017

I’m an alcoholic, member of the Tamarac Group, and my name is Al.  My sobriety date is March 2, 2004.  I am honored to serve as your District 9 Chairperson. First off I’d like to welcome our esteemed Delegate Annie C for taking the time to come here to deliver her Delegate Report Presentation of her experiences at the 67th General Service Conference held April 23rd-29th at the Westchester Hilton in Rye, New York. I’ll keep this report short so we can get right to her report ASAP. We held our Founders Day picnic on June 4th and although we had some rain the event turned out great. Thank you all who attended and did service. More later in Joey B’s report. Additionally, we are having planning meetings for the Unity Breakfast, Gratitude Dinner, the October Assembly hosted by District 9, and Carry the Message Day. All committees are in need of volunteers so don’t be afraid to get involved to grow and learn. The next Assembly will be at the Hyatt Sarasota, July 21st thru the 23rd. Unity XII Breakfast Report – June 2017

I’m an alcoholic, member of the Tamarac Group, and my name is Al.  The Unity XII Breakfast Planning Meeting was held at the Intergroup Office on Thursday, May 25, 2017. We are progressing nicely and in good shape as we get closer to the Event. Thanks go out to Judy O who helped sell tickets at the last District Meeting. That service was invaluable. This is one of 2 events where General Service, Broward County Institutions and Broward County Intergroup come together to fulfill our Primary Purpose. I’ve got only a few tickets available for purchase. You might be able to purchase tickets at the Intergroup Office or someone from BCIC. The menu will be finalized at our last planning meeting on June 14th and may include eggs, bacon, sausage, home fries, and croissants. The Organization assignments have been for the most part been finalized. There are always opportunities to do service. The Unity XII Breakfast will be held at 9:00 am on June 24th at the Plantation United Methodist Church.  The Speaker is our own Trish C K. Literature Chair of General Service and new ACM working with Sherri in Subdistrict 14. So let’s all come out and show her our support. The Church is a NO SMOKING FACILITY so of course there is NO SMOKING on the property. At this point, no tickets WILL BE sold at the door. Only 270 tickets were available for purchase at $8 each. All Volunteers are required to purchase a ticket. Extra Volunteers will be placed where needed on the day of the Event to help meet any Staffing needs. Please see me to purchase your tickets as I’ve only got a handful should you wish to be part of this great event. Beverages are included in the ticket price. Coffee, bottled water, and juice. CHAIR REPORT – MAY 2017

I’m an alcoholic, member of the Tamarac Group, and my name is Al.  My sobriety date is March 2, 2004.  I am honored to serve as your District 9 Chairperson. Our Old Timer’s Meeting was held on Saturday, May 13th here at Nova. We had 3 really good speakers with over 35 years of sobriety each. More will be revealed by our Archives Committee in just a bit. Support Your Services is gearing up for the Founders Day picnic on June 4th, so please listen carefully to Joey B’s report to find out how you can get involved and get your tickets at a discount.  He really needs your help and support as this is a big event. Additionally, we are having planning meetings for the Unity Breakfast, Gratitude Dinner, the October Assembly we are hosting, and Carry the Message Day. All committees are in need of volunteers so don’t be afraid to get involved to grow and learn. Please also see Sandy as we need help with the Delegate Luncheon and what Pot Luck foods we can tempt Annie with before she gives her report from the General Service Conference here on June 11th. We will not be having our normal workshops as the luncheon starts at 12:00 pm. You may need to get here a little early to help set up. Our District Meeting will be following a modified format to give time for the Delegate Report. I know she has been working real hard preparing her presentation. I’m an alcoholic, member of the Tamarac Group, and my name is Al.  As you have honored me to serve as your District 9 Chairperson one of my responsibilities is to work with the other Organizations on the Unity Events in order to be focused on our Primary Purpose. In that regard, the Unity XII Breakfast Planning Meeting was held at the Intergroup Office on Thursday, April 20, 2017. All Organizations were in attendance with great participation. Although we are still working on a menu, the Organization assignments have been for the most part been finalized and tickets will be available shortly for sale. The Unity XII Breakfast will be held at 9:00 am on June 24th at the Plantation United Methodist Church.  The Church is a NO SMOKING FACILITY so of course there is NO SMOKING on the property. This is a limited venue where it is anticipated that the will be no tickets sold at the door. The best way to get a ticket is to sign up for service. Only 270 tickets will be available for sale at $8 each. Each entity will be given 90 tickets to sell for the Event. All Volunteers are required to purchase a ticket. District 9 is looking for approximately 25 Volunteers but more are encouraged to perform service for the following Committees; Cleanup-Dining Room (2), Cleanup-Kitchen (2), Coffee & Coffee Cleanup (3), Cooking (2) please check with Victor T as he will be working with Bob H of Intergroup on the Cooking and preparations, Food Line Directors (1), Food Servers (3), Set Up / Breakdown (2), Juice/Water (3), Trash Disposal (1), Ready Squad (1), Parking (2), Smoking Patrol (1), Clean Outside (1), Registration/Badges (3).
