CHAIR DISTRICT 9 REPORT – APRIL 2008
Good afternoon, my name is Gwen G and I am an Alcoholic. My sobriety date is March 1978 and I am honored to serve as your District Chairperson.
Although it was a long drive and a religious holiday weekend, we had a reasonable attendance from District 9 at the General Service Assembly held at the Doubletree Hotel in Tampa on April 18 – 20, 2008. The Sunday morning business meeting was quite drawn out therefore; the sharing on the 2008 General Service Conference Agenda items had a late start and diminished attendance. The next Quarterly Assembly will be held much closer to home at Boca Raton on July 11th through the 13th which will enable more of our members to attend. Flyers are on the table, please mark this event on your calendars and plan to attend.
On March 15th our Support Your Services Committee hosted their annual Spring Fling Dance at the NSU Cafeteria. We had a great turnout of sober alcoholics enjoying the music, dancing, and fellowship. Dominick and his committee have moved on to plan our annual Founder’s Day Picnic to be held at Snyder Park on June 8th.
On May 17th, the Archives committee will be hosting the Old Timers meeting here at NSU Steele Auditorium. Flyers are available to take to your groups. Be sure to mark this event on your calendar. There will be 5 speakers with 35 plus years of sobriety bringing their inspiring messages to us. Please bring a new comer and a dessert.
Our Area 15 Delegate will be coming to our District meeting on May 18th to give his report on the 2008 General Service Conference. We will be having our annual Potluck Delegate’s Luncheon and I hear that it is Bill’s 20th AA anniversary so we will have a cake and celebrate with him. Please bring a covered dish or a dessert to share. The Luncheon will start around Noon and Bill will give his report at 2:00 followed by our regular business meeting.
The Unity Breakfast, which is a combined event for Intergroup, BCIC and General Service, will be held here at NSU Cafeteria on May 31st. The Chairs of the 3 entities are sharing the responsibility of planning this event. Our Treasurer, Gary L, and Mike W, past Intergroup Chair, will be assisting with the organization, cooking and all other work. There are 100 tickets allocated to each entity to sell before the event. You can see Gary or me after the meeting to purchase tickets. We will also have tickets for sale at the May District meeting. General Service will be doing the coffee, setup, serving, tickets and various related jobs. Therefore we will be soliciting volunteers to do service for this event.
At Unity III, there will be displays in the Atrium so people can browse. The Recorder will have a large table of Speaker CD’s for sale, Regina will have her Archives and we are hoping that some of our other Committees will set up their displays also. Please see Bob H, Gary L or myself and we will secure a table for your committee’s display.
I want to express my gratitude to all of you for your willingness and enthusiasm for service at the district level. I am grateful for the opportunity to learn patience and tolerance and grow spiritually with you.
