First and foremost the lease agreement with Nova University for 2019 is signed and paid with the Insurance Certificate in place. The 2019 Calendar is available on the table and on the District Website for your use to make sure you don’t miss a date for a meeting or an event.

CHAIR REPORT NOVEMBER, 2018

The Gratitude Dinner was awesome with great food, fellowship and Speaker. Thank you all who participated and did Service. More details will be available a little later in the Gratitude Dinner Report.

Planning is underway for the Winterfest Holiday Dinner & Ice Cream social. More info will be provided from Bobby V & Heather M in the Support your Services report.

District elections went well last month with almost all positions filled. Today, in this District meeting we will be holding elections for the following positions; Archives and Grapevine which are 2 year terms and Carry the Message Day which is a 1 year term with the eligibility to stand for a second year. Don’t be afraid to step up. You can’t keep it without giving it away. Right now we would like to take this opportunity to thank Thomas D for his service while Archives Chairperson. We wish Thomas gratitude and willingness to continue to carry the message and inspire the newcomer. Good luck Thomas in all you do.

This week I got a very nice email from the Broward County Institutions Chairperson Ken J and their Steering Committee. Ken writes “I want to thank and recognize David for his excellence in service to our Committee. During his 2 year commitment he demonstrated great leadership, provided wisdom and acted in the best interests of AA.” District 9 would like to thank David for your hard work and dedication. You are an example for us all.

In early December, we will be looking to finalize our lease with NSU. We have signed the lease with no change to the dates that have been proposed. The rooms have been determined and now we just need to wait until the Liability Insurance is processed and execute final payment. The 2019 Calendar will be available on the table at the December District Meeting as well as on the District Website for your  use.

Hope to see you at Winterfest on December 8th right here at Nova Southeastern University. Klondike Bars…. Yummm…

CHAIR REPORT – SEPTEMBER, 2018

I’m an alcoholic, member of the Tamarac Group, and my name is Al. My sobriety date is March 2, 2004. I am blessed and honored to be able to serve as your District 9 Chairperson.

I hope everyone enjoyed themselves at the 62nd Florida State Convention August 15th thru the 19th. I know I did and oh that Musical was special. *wink*

As I reported last month, Carry the Message Day/Unity Breakfast was held here at Nova on August 4th at 8:00am. It was a fun event and I want to thank those again that came to help Carry the Message in support of BCIC, Intergroup and District 9 General Service. The new venue of an Ask It Basket Panel with 2 Trusted Servants from each entity worked out well with a great discussion. Attendance was somewhat low which resulted in each entity contributing $357.91 toward the cost of the event.

The Gratitude Dinner planning meeting was held on August 26th at the Sober Today Club at 1:30pm in Hollywood where we continue sign-up and sold tickets to the Dinner Committees. Today we will continue selling tickets to District trusted servants. There are still many positions available for service. It is our biggest event of the year. Someone from the Gratitude Dinner Committee will explain this process and provide more details a little later in the Gratitude Dinner Report.

The Spaghetti Dinner was held on September 8th here at Nova. Attendance was amazing with a full house for the food and the movie. Thank you Bobby V and Committee …. Homerun!!! More from Bobby a little later.

Next month we have our District elections so please pray on how you can best be of service to District 9 and the sick and suffering of Broward County. Please get involved as Service is crucial to everyone’s sobriety. The following positions will all be available; Chairperson, Treasurer, Recording Secretary, Registrar, Finance, Grapevine, Institution Liaison, Intergroup Liaison, Room/Ride Coordinator, and Support Your Services. Officers, and Standing Committees such as Finance, and Grapevine are 2 year terms, all others are 1 year with the eligibility to stand for a second year. Please see the District Guidelines and talk to the present Committee Chair or one of your Officers for help. Don’t be afraid step up for a position it fosters growth and the need is great. You can’t keep it without giving it away….so please pray, talk to your sponsor, stand and get involved next month.

Thank you all for your support. Remember to check the District website @district9aa.org for details on all upcoming events.

Hope to see you at the Archives – Early Timer’s event on October 13th at 5:00 pm here at Nova. Kindest regards in Unity thru Love & Service, Al K. District 9 Chairperson Area 15 Panel 67. Email:

Founder’s Day Picnic Statement

As some of you may know the District’s Support yours Services Chair stepped down in June. After conclusion of our financial review, at this time it is our responsibility to inform the body that there was a significant shortage in what revenue was received for deposit and what should have been deposited based on our audit of the total revenue received minus expenses. The shortage resulted in a profit to the District for the Founder’s Day Picnic of $33. As the shortage in deposits received was significant, the District Officers decided to request that the Support your Services Chair resign in the best interest of District as it was clear that the position was not being managed properly. To make things right, the Support your Services Chair at the time stated that the District would be reimbursed for those revenues not turned in for deposit.

Your Officers came to consensus that in the best interest of the individual in recovery we needed to be sensitive to their circumstances and to exercise forgiveness, patience, love, and tolerance as our Program teaches us. The Officers did not request the individual to step down from any other service position and tried to encourage other forms of service activities to help with the person’s recovery. Unfortunately, the individual eventually resigned from their other service position and left the District. Since July, we have tried to reach out to this person giving every opportunity to do the right thing, without judging.

As we are not receiving any further communication with this individual, it’s apparent that the District must close the books on this disappointing situation and must move forward. We ask that your prayers go out to this person for a good recovery, peace, and serenity.

If anyone would like more information, please see me and our Treasurer Leslie after the meeting.

Lastly, the Officers would like to thank Bobby V for his service in stepping up as interim Support your Services Chair. Great job Bobby and Committee with the Spaghetti Dinner. It was amazing.

Kindest regards in Unity thru Love & Service,

Al K

District 9 Chairperson, Area 15, Panel 67

CHAIR REPORT – AUGUST, 2018

I’m an alcoholic, member of the Tamarac Group, and my name is Al. My sobriety date is March 2, 2004. I am blessed and honored to be able to serve as your District 9 Chairperson.

The Gratitude Dinner planning meeting was held on July 29th at 441 in Margate where we sold our first tickets to Dinner Committees. Today we will be selling tickets to District trusted servants. Someone from the Gratitude Dinner Committee will explain this process and provide more details a little later in the Gratitude Dinner Report. Planning is continuing for the Spaghetti Dinner on September 8th right here in Nova. Bobby will fill us in a little later in his report.

Carry the Message Day/Unity Breakfast was held here at Nova this past Saturday, August 4th at 8:00am. It was a fun event and I want to thank those that came to help Carry the Message in support of BCIC, Intergroup and District 9 General Service. The new venue of an Ask It Basket Panel with 2 Trusted Servants from each entity worked out well with a great discussion. Many questions were fielded, discussed and answered. There were literally tons of food leftover. General Service District 9 unveiled a new piece of literature on “How to Get Involved in Service in General Service District 9”. It is a very useful piece of literature although some typos were found to be corrected before the next printing. OOPS. Allan G will add some details in his report.

We have our District elections in October so please pray on how you can best be of service to District 9. It’s very important that we take care of our own sick and suffering alcoholics in Broward County first and try to help them travel that Road to Recovery. Participation and Communication is key to our program and District. We pray that GSRs have the willingness to step up to ACM and stay in the District. Are you willing? Please get involved as Service is crucial to everyone’s sobriety. The following positions will all be available; all Officer Positions, Finance, Grapevine, Institution Liaison, Intergroup Liaison, Room/Ride Coordinator, and Support Your Services. Officers, and Standing Committees such as Finance, and Grapevine are 2 year terms, all others are 1 year with the eligibility to stand for a second year. See the District Guidelines and talk to the present Committee Chair or one of your Officers for help. Don’t be afraid step up for a position as God does not choose the qualified in so much as God qualifies the chosen.
You can’t keep it without giving it away….so please pray, talk to your sponsor, stand and get involved in October.

Thank you all for your understanding, participation, and support. Remember to check the District website @district9aa.org for details on all upcoming events. Thank you all for your willingness & dedication in
representing your Groups and carrying the message. See you at the Florida State Convention and don’t forget to go to the Musical Saturday evening after the Speaker as the will be a huge Conga line going to the dance. Also see you at the Spaghetti Dinner September 8th.

Kindest regards in Unity thru Love & Service, Al K. District 9 Chairperson Area 15 Panel 67.

CHAIR REPORT – JULY, 2018

I’m an alcoholic, member of the Tamarac Group, and my name is Al. My sobriety date is March 2, 2004. I am honored to serve as your District 9 Chairperson. Today we will be having an abbreviated Agenda to make time for our Delegate’s Conference Report but I assure you that all reports will be in the minutes in their entirety.

Although the Assembly at the Tampa Airport Marriott, July 6th – 8th was a long ride, the Hotel was very accommodating and the business meeting enlightening. Attendance seemed a little down as a whole from the last few Assemblies with our own District 9 having just 20 votes and District 8 right next door had 40 votes. Our participation was a little surprising so we may need to discuss it in more detail to try to determine what happened and how we can improve. Remember GSRs are the voice of their Groups and are at the top of the upside triangle so if you do not exercise your right to vote, an educated group conscience cannot be obtained for the good of your Group, the District, the Area, and AA as a whole. Everyone suffers because only a handful are making the decisions for all of us and God help us. If you would like to know the results of the Motions please contact your ACM/DCM for details. On a high note we have been awarded the October 2019 Assembly at the Boca Marriott Hotel October 4th – 6th. The Keys has not hosted an Assembly in a long time so hopefully one of their Districts may reach out to us and be willing to get involved and help. On a particular note related to the Assembly, we find that it is necessary to make it clear that GSRs who are not funded by their Home Group and request to stay in a District paid room are required to attend the Sunday Business meeting.

The Gratitude Dinner planning meeting was held on June 24th at the 4th Dimension Club. All Chair positions I believe are filled and tickets will be sold to Committee members at this month’s meeting at 441 Group (Village Plaza), 1452 N. State Road 7, in Margate on July 29th at 1:30pm. Judy will explain this process and provide more details a little later in the Gratitude Dinner Report. Planning has begun for the Spaghetti Dinner. So, at this time, I would like to formally announce to the body that our own Bobby V has agreed to step in and be the Support Your Services Chair for the remainder of the year. Thank you Bobby. Bobby V will elaborate more in his own unique manner in the report. Also, don’t forget our Carry the Message Day/Unity Breakfast to be held here at Nova on August 4th at 8:00am. If all goes well we will be unveiling a new piece of literature on “How to Get Involved in Service in General Service District 9”. It should be a fun event. Allan G will fill you in during his report.

We have our District elections in October so please pray on how you can best be of service to District 9. It’s very important that we take care of our own sick and suffering alcoholics in Broward County first and try to help them travel that Road to Recovery. We pray that GSRs are enlightened by their Higher Power to step up to ACM and stay in the District. Please get involved. It would be my honor to be able to talk to you about a position. Don’t be afraid step up for a position as God does not choose the qualified in so much as God qualifies the chosen so please pray, talk to your sponsor, stand and get involved in October.

Thank you all for your understanding, participation, and support. Remember to check the District website @district9aa.org for details on all upcoming events. Thank you all for your willingness & dedication in representing your Groups and carrying the message. See you at the event planning meetings and Carry the Message Day/Unity Breakfast event August 4th. Kindest regards in Unity thru Love & Service, Al K. District 9 Chairperson Area 15 Panel 67. Email:

CHAIR REPORT – JUNE, 2018

I’m an alcoholic, member of the Tamarac Group, and my name is Al. My sobriety date is March 2, 2004. I am honored to serve as your District 9 Chairperson. The next Assembly will be at the Tampa Airport Marriott, July 6th – 8th. Flyers are on the District website for download. Check out the Protected Document Section to print out the Assembly Agenda and Motions to bring to your groups for consideration. It is our first time there and should be exciting.

The Gratitude Dinner planning meeting was held on May 27th at the Lambda Club South, 1231 E Las Olas Blvd, Fort Lauderdale, only 2 Chair positions remain so more from Judy/Tracie a little later. We had a great time at the Founder’s Day Picnic on June 3rd at Snyder Park. The band was awesome. Joey will provide more details a little later. Flyers for all events are on the District Website to download and on the table to bring to your groups. Jackie/Debbie is sending around a sign in list for the Delegate Luncheon for next month on July 15th in the Cafeteria with food at noon and our Delegate report to follow at 2:00pm. Please try to attend and bring a dish. It’s always a fun and informative event.

Remember please think and pray what District positions you may want to hold when we have our October elections. I hope GSRs consider stepping up to ACM and stay in the District to help fulfill its needs. We get such great information and have a fantastic time at Assemblies. I can’t tell you enough how incredible it is to make friends from other Districts to share this Journey with. Maybe even a future Delegate will come from District 9. The request to host the October Assembly at the Boca Marriott for 2019 has been sent in to the Area Quarterly Coordinator for consideration. It will get talked about at the Assembly in July I’m sure. Please I hope you all get involved. That’s why we need people to step up for the following positions; all Officer Positions, Finance, Grapevine, Institution Liaison, Intergroup Liaison, Room/Ride Coordinator, and Support Your Services. Officers, and Standing Committees such as Finance, and Grapevine are 2 year terms, all others are 1 year with the eligibility to stand for a second year. See the Guidelines and talk to the present Committee Chair or one of your Officers for help. It would be my honor to talk to you about a position. Thank you all for your understanding, participation, and support. Remember to check the District website @ district9aa.org for details on all upcoming events. Thank you all for your willingness & dedication in representing your Groups and carrying the message. See you all at the Delegate Luncheon and the Delegate Report next month on the 15th at noon.

CHAIR REPORT – MAY 2018

I’m an alcoholic, member of the Tamarac Group, and my name is Al. My sobriety date is March 2, 2004. I am honored to serve as your District 9 Chairperson. The next Assembly will be at the Tampa Airport Marriott, July 6th – 8th. Flyers are on the table and the District website for download. It is our first time there and should be exciting.

On May 5th we held our Old Timer’s event with 3 Speakers that had 35 years or more of Sobriety to share their experience, strength, and hope. We had a better turnout from last year but could use more help on the Archives Committee with GSRs getting more involved. We had one Committee with their display. Thank you PI/CPC for carrying the message. The event was loaded with newcomers which was encouraging but could use more participation in Twelve Step work. More from Thomas a little later in the meeting.

The Gratitude Dinner planning meeting was held on April 29th at the Twelve Step House where committee chairs were selected. More from Tracie a little later. Planning is also underway for the Founder’s Day Picnic on June 3rd at Snyder Park. Joey will provide more details a little later. Flyers for all events are on the District Website to download and on the table to bring to your groups. Jackie is sending around a sign in list for the Delegate Luncheon on July 15th in the Cafeteria with food at noon and our Delegate report to follow at 2:00pm. Please try to attend and bring a dish. It’s always a fun and informative event.

I pray that everyone is thinking and talking about what District positions you may want to hold when we have our October elections. I hope GSR enthusiasm is not waning as there is much work to do. Please consider stepping up to ACM and stay in the District to help fulfill its needs. Last month we talked about hosting an Assembly for 2019. Subsequent to the April District Meeting it was determined in the best interest of the District that we will request to Host the October Assembly at the Boca Marriott in lieu of the April Assembly. For it to be successful, we need people to step up for the following positions; all Officer Positions, Finance, Grapevine, Institution Liaison, Intergroup Liaison, Room/Ride Coordinator, and Support Your Services. Officers, and Standing Committees such as Finance, and Grapevine are 2 year terms, all others are 1 year with the eligibility to stand for a second year. See your Guidelines or one of your Officers for details. We have always been the District that Area goes to when they need help due to our experience so please let’s not let the Area down and step up for a position. Don’t be afraid as God does not choose the qualified in so much as God qualifies the chosen so please pray and talk to your sponsor and step up.

Thank you all for your understanding, participation, and support. Remember to check the District website @district9aa.org for details on all upcoming events. Thank you all for your willingness & dedication in representing your Groups and carrying the message. We invite you to participate in the GSR Workshop where you will gain knowledge on how to be a responsible GSR.

CHAIR REPORT – APRIL 2018

I’m an alcoholic, member of the Tamarac Group, and my name is Al.  My sobriety date is March 2, 2004.  I am honored to serve as your District 9 Chairperson. I attended the Assembly at the Bonaventure Resort & Spa on April 6th – 8th. It was a long day of going over the General Service Conference Agenda Items with our Delegate Annie C. We had 37 votes but District 8 had 50 votes. That was amazing. Since there were no motions on the Agenda it was mute. The next Assembly will be at the Tampa Airport Marriott, July 6th – 8th. Flyers are on the table and the District website for download. It is our first time there and should be exciting.

Planning is underway for the Old Timer’s event being held here on May 5th so come out and join us. This is a free event with 3 Speakers that have 35 years or more of Sobriety to share their experience, strength, and hope. The event is normally loaded with newcomers so come out and show your support. We hope that Committee Chairs will be there with their displays and DCMs/ACMs will be there to offer support to those sick and suffering who are the future of our Program. Please encourage your GSRs to attend. More from Thomas a little later in the meeting. The first Gratitude Dinner planning meeting was held on March 25th at the 101 Club at 1:00pm where we picked a theme for the event. More from Tracie a little later. Planning is also underway for the Founder’s Day Picnic. Joey will provide more details a little later. Flyers for all events are on the District Website and on the table to download and bring to your groups.

Later today we will be presenting and voting on the 2 motions from Milinda and the Website Committee. It is exciting to watch our District grow. 2018 is moving really fast so I pray that everyone start thinking and talking about what District positions you may want to hold when we have our October elections. In addition the following positions should be available Finance, Grapevine, Institution Liaison, Intergroup Liaison, Room/Ride Coordinator, and Support Your Services. CHAIR REPORT – MARCH 2018

I’m an alcoholic, member of the Tamarac Group, and my name is Al. My sobriety date is March 2, 2004. I am honored to serve as your District 9 Chairperson. The next Assembly is at the Bonaventure Resort & Spa April 6th – 8th. Flyers are available on the District website. The April Assembly is in our own backyard in Weston so come and get involved. There are plenty of Workshops to attend such as Traditions, Concepts, and GSR sharing session to name a few. Please find your passion and go to a Committee Meeting of your choice so you can get involved in District. Our Delegate Annie C will be going over the General Service Conference Agenda Items for you input.
As a reminder to District trusted servants that hold positions, “For attendance at South Florida Assemblies, District 9 will reimburse a flat rate of $200.00 (all inclusive) for one night’s lodging. If attendee holds a funded Area 15 position, he or she is funded according to Area 15 Current Practice, and District 9 reimburses the difference between the Area funding and the current District 9 flat rate, but not to exceed the current District 9 flat rate. Eligible to receive compensation are District Officers, DCMs, ACMs when there is no DCM or the DCM is unable to attend, Archives, Current Practice, Grapevine, PI/CPC, Accessibilities, Literature, Website and Finance Committee Chairpersons. In addition,“DCMs, ACMs and GSRs must attend their respective Saturday meetings including the Sunday morning business meeting in order to be reimbursed by District 9. What that means is if you are a District Committee Chair and a DCM/ACM you must attend your respective Area Committee Meeting, the DCM Sharing and Sunday Business Meeting. The same holds true for GSRs that are District Committee Chairs, you must attend your respective Area Committee Meeting, the GSR Sharing, and Sunday Business Meeting. Although this is an honest program we do check to ensure that we do our best in Carrying the Message and being responsible with 7th Tradition Contributions. Thank you all for your cooperation and service.
Today we will be having an abbreviated Agenda where only a select few will be giving their reports so that we can go over the General Service Conference Agenda items in preparation for our Delegate’s review at the Assembly in Bonaventure. It is important to understand the items being discussed so that we can tell our Delegate our group conscience at the Business Meeting on Sunday, April 8th. Please be assured that all Committee reports will go in the Minutes so please be responsible and get them to our Secretary quickly for the minutes.
Spring*Fling is over and I know that all in attendance had a great time and our speaker Jean did a real good job. Thanks to the Support Yours Services Committee for their hard work with this event. Joey B will let us know how we did later in the meeting. Planning is underway for the Old Timer’s event being held here on May 5th so come out and join us. CHAIR REPORT – JANUARY 2018

There were 12 GSRs & 3 AGSRs voting in attendance for a total of 30 votes. Good news the April Assembly is local so we hope that you give your Group a voice and come to Weston to be a part of. We really would like to see a lot participation as there will be several motions on the Agenda that could affect the Assemblies and possibly the GSRs right to vote. Our Delegate Annie C will also be going over the General Conference Agenda Items for you input.

Back to the Sarasota Assembly, there were 2 motions that went forward one passed and one failed so please see you Subdistrict DCM/ACM for the details. The Area Budget was presented for Disapproval and was accepted. Details will also be in the Area minutes. Area15 will be making a Contribution to the General Service Board in the amount of $27,026. Due to the high level of contributions over the last few years, questions have been raised that the Area needs to do more to foster the coordination of information.

There is a wealth of experience in the Area that it could bring to the Districts with its past Delegates, Delegates, Officers, Committee Chairs and District Committee members but the impression is that the Area openly enjoys making big contributions to New York. Unfortunately, the Area, as per Current Practice, still expect Districts to foot the bill when Delegates or other Committee members travel within the Area to speak or help with issues. More will be revealed. Please attend the April Assembly and give your group a voice.

Spring*Fling planning is underway so come out and join us.

Today we will be voting on the motion to add a page to our District 9 website which will be designated as a resource center for our district. The motion was sent as an email blast to quickly bring to your groups for discussion and is listed on your agendas.

Welcome to all those who are new today or haven’t seen us for a while. As you listen to the Reports, the District would like to encourage everyone to find an area of service you may like so you can become a part of and lend a hand. We can’t do it alone. Thank you all for your understanding, participation, and support.

Our February meeting will be back into the Resnick Auditorium for the rest of the year. Remember to check the District for details on all upcoming events.

Thank you all for your willingness & dedication in representing your Groups and carrying the message. Come to the GSR Workshop where you will gain insight on how to be a valued GSR.

Kindest regards in Unity thru Love & Service, Al K. District 9 Chairperson Area 15 Panel 67.

CHAIR REPORT – DECEMBER 2017

I’m an alcoholic, member of the Tamarac Group, and my name is Al. My sobriety date is March 2, 2004. I am blessed to serve as your District 9 Chairperson. First and foremost is that I received an Email from our Delegate Annie C. who has informed us that the Manuscript Litigation had been dropped citing it not to be in our best interest. A copy of the letter is on the table for your review so you can inform your groups that A.A.W.S. has applied to the New York State Supreme Court to voluntarily dismiss its case.

The next Assembly is at the Sarasota Hyatt January 5-7, 2018. Flyers are available on the table as well as the Area Agenda with motions to bring back to your groups for discussion. Flyers and agendas are also available on the District or Area websites for printing. Please attend and give your group a voice.

The Winterfest Event which included “Spaghetti & Meatballs & Ice Cream” was delicious with a lovely mix of Holiday Music, contemporary music and an inspiring speaker. Thanks James K for being our speaker. Thank you Joey and your Support your Services Committee for putting on a fun event. More from Joey later in the meeting. Our attendance of District Trusted Servants was stellar with 2 Past Delegates in attendance. GSRs, we could use more participation as there were trays of Meatballs and Spaghetti left over. It was an ideal setting to get to know your ACM/DCM/Committee Chairs and Officers. I’m sure your ACM/DCMs will reach out to you to get involved. We had excellent displays from Literature, PI/CPC, Archives, and Grapevine. Even the State Convention had a table. So there was much to share and a time to grow as individuals. Now for the business at hand.

The District is in need of dedicated responsible individuals to fulfill the positions of Website, Intergroup Liaison, and Carry the Message Day. Thank you to Sharon G who stepped up and was appointed to be the 2018 GSR Workshop Coordinator starting in January. We know it will be a great year for the GSRs under her guidance. Also thanks to Joey B who stepped up for a 2nd year of Support your Services Chair. He needs a Co-Chair that is willing to learn the ropes to stand for 2019.

As always, I’d like to welcome all those who are new today and encourage you all to find an area of service you may like in our District and lend a hand. We can’t do it alone. Thank you all for your understanding, participation, and support.

Our January meeting will be taking place in Room 2103 AUDC then we will be back in the Resnick Auditorium in February. Remember to check the District for details on all upcoming events. But if things are not up to date, we can’t do a good job getting the message out without a Website Chair? Oh yes, training will be provided. Thank you all for your willingness & dedication in representing your Groups and carrying the message. Come to the GSR Workshop where you will gain an educated group conscience.

CHAIR REPORT – NOVEMBER 2017

I’m an alcoholic, member of the Tamarac Group, and my name is Al. My sobriety date is March 2, 2004. I am blessed to serve as your District 9 Chairperson. The next Assembly is at the Sarasota Hyatt January 5-7, 2018. Flyers are available on the table as well as the Area Agenda with motions to bring back to your groups for discussion. Flyers and agendas are also available on the District or Area websites for printing. Just remember you are not being responsible if you don’t attend and give your group a voice.

Our Support your Services Chair Joey B is preparing for the Winterfest Event that includes you guessed it “Spaghetti & Meatballs & Ice Cream”. Don’t worry the meatballs are fresh. Ha Ha. If you would like to be involved in Support Your Services Joey is looking for a Secretary/Treasurer/Co-Chair. Briefly, please get the word out that (1) anyone who purchased a ticket to the Spaghetti Dinner will have that ticket honored at the Winterfest Event with our appreciation or (2) anyone who has a ticket and wants to have their money refunded just needs to present the ticket to Joey our Support your Services Chair before the Winterfest event being held on December 2, 2017.

Early Timers was hosted by the Archive Committee on October 21st and we had 3 great speakers that shared their experience, strength and hope. I would be remiss if I didn’t say that I was somewhat disappointed in the lack of attendance of District Trusted Servants as well as GSRs. This was a wonderful opportunity for ACMs, DCMs, and Standing Committee members to work one on one, face to face with GSRs and Alternate GSRs and to show by example and encourage participation in District Events. It takes every single one of you to help the District Carry the Message. No handful of members can do this alone. I say this with love for you continued sobriety and pray for continued support.

The Gratitude Dinner on November 10th was nothing short of amazing as our Speaker El N Past Southeast Regional Trustee from South Carolina was super and the food was wonderful. Thank you Sherri D and the Gratitude Dinner Committee for putting on a stellar performance. More will be revealed on these events later in the meeting.

The District is in need of dedicated responsible individuals to fulfill the positions of Website, Intergroup Liaison, Support Your Services, and Carry the Message Day. I am also looking for a past or present ACM/DCM to be the GSR Workshop Coordinator starting in January. If you would like to submit your name for this position to help mentor new minds in General Service please contact me for consideration.

I’d like to welcome all those who are new today and encourage you all – whether you are new or experienced veterans in service – to find an area of service you may like in our District and lend a hand. Thank you all for your understanding, participation, and support.

Speaking about Website I would like to thank our Web Chair Erika D who although has stepped down has continued to dedicate her time and also our Website Tech Guru Eric P who transparently migrated the website from Go Daddy to Dreamhost our new web hosting service. This included creating all new email accounts and moving messages over from one account to another. Thank you for the many sleepless hours and the job you did was nothing short of incredible. Eric will be available a little later to answer and questions you may have.

Remember to check the District website @district9aa.org for details on all upcoming events. Thank you all for your willingness & dedication in representing your Groups and carrying the message.

Kindest regards in Unity thru Love & Service,
Al K. District 9 Chairperson Area 15 Panel 67.

CHAIR REPORT – OCTOBER 2017

CHAIR REPORT – OCTOBER 2017

I’m an alcoholic, member of the Tamarac Group, and my name is Al. My sobriety date is March 2, 2004. I am gifted to serve as your District 9 Chairperson. The Area Assembly was held October 6-8th right here in Fort Lauderdale at the Marriot North. Thank you Richard S, the committee, and all the other volunteers for putting in endless hours and dedication in support of District 9 and the Area. Many thanks to all that attended. Our Speakers were amazing. We had 18 GSRs & 7 Alt GSRs who fulfilled their responsibilities to their Home Group by attending the Sunday Business Meeting. District DCMs/ACMs were there in force doing the deal. Awesome…. We had a total of 40 votes. It truly added to an educated Group Conscience during a spirited business meeting. We had 3 motions and 3 time sensitive motions. We also voted for the remaining Assemblies from July 2018 to April 2020. The next Assembly is at the Sarasota Hyatt January 5-7, 2018. Flyers are available on the table and on the District or Area websites for printing. I will be asking our Website Committee to put them on the Calendar. They will also be posted in the Area Minutes and on the Area Website. Please see your Subdistrict DCM/ACM for what transpired, what passed, and what failed. Just remember you can’t be responsible if you don’t attend and give your group a voice. The Area is contributing to Hurricane Relief for those Areas that had facilities and resources destroyed. Please see our Literature Rep if you would like to be involved on a Group or Individual level. On that note we had to cancel our Spaghetti Dinner due to the Hurricane. Our Support your Services Chair Joey B is reconciling the costs and in need of a permanent Co-Chair so if you want to be a part of some great events by giving back please see Joey. Briefly, we have written a short statement that GSRs can read in their Home Group regarding the tickets that have been purchased. “We want to thank you all who purchased tickets to the Spaghetti Dinner in advance. We hope you are all safe and no one was injured. All life is sacred and should be cherished. Going forward, we would like to offer that (1) anyone who purchased a ticket to the Spaghetti Dinner will have that ticket honored at the Winterfest Event with our appreciation or (2) anyone who has a ticket and wants to have their money refunded just needs to present the ticket to Joey our Support your Services Chair prior to the Winterfest event being held on December 2, 2017. We thank you all for your support and participation. In Unity thru Love & Service, General Service District 9”. Our next event will be Early Timers hosted by the Archive Committee on October 21st and then the Gratitude Dinner on November 10th. More will be revealed later in the meeting. There are 2 District positions open. We are in need of a PI/CPC Chair and an Intergroup Liaison to help carry the message. We will hold these elections together with our October Elections during New Business, Don’t be afraid to try something new as you have the whole District behind you. Today we will be holding our District Elections for the following positions starting in January 2018; Archives, Literature, PI/CPC, Accessibilities, Website, Intergroup Liaison, Institutions Liaison, Room/Ride Coordinator, Support Your Services, and Carry the Message Day. If you are standing for either PI/CPC or Intergroup Liaison those positions start today and that time between now and the end of the year does not affect your term starting in January 2018. I’d like to welcome all who are new today and encourage you all – whether you are new or seasoned veterans in service – to find an area of service you may like in our District and lend a hand. We are blessed with an active and enthusiastic District here in Broward County. The last planning meeting for the Gratitude Dinner is October 29th at CRPC where we still have positions open for volunteers. Tickets will be available. Thank you all for your understanding, participation, and support. Remember to check the District website @district9aa.org for details on all upcoming events. Thank you all for your willingness & dedication in representing your Groups and carrying the message. In Unity thru Love & Service, Al K. District 9 Chairperson Area 15 Panel 67. Email:

Chairperson’s announcement – Hurricane Irma

With Florida being at a State of Emergency due to the coming of Hurricane Irma I would personally encourage everyone to do whatever they can to protect themselves and their love ones from this terrible storm. Y’all in the District keep us going in carrying the message so please prepare and be safe. Also keep an eye on Jose he seems to be tagging on Irma’s shirt tails. God Bless.

Nova University has stated that the Campus will be closed until further notice starting Thursday, September 7th and will not reopen until the threat from the Hurricane has passed.

It was not only prudent but necessary that our Spaghetti Dinner scheduled for this Saturday evening had to be canceled. The planning meeting scheduled for Wednesday, September 6th is also canceled to allow people time to prepare. More information will be available after the  Hurricane passes and the District meets to determine the best way to proceed and go forward.

In Unity thru Love & Service, Al K

CHAIR REPORT – AUGUST 2017

I’m an alcoholic, member of the Tamarac Group, and my name is Al. My sobriety date is March 2, 2004. I am gifted to serve as your District 9 Chairperson. Carry the Message Day was held on Saturday, August 12, 2017 right here at Nova. Thank you all that attended. Thomas put on a real good event with enthusiastic and informational messages given by Susan P of BCIC, Mary S from Intergroup Main Office, and our own Heather M. More from Thomas later in this meeting. We have a fun event coming up with the Spaghetti Dinner on September 9th. Who makes the best meatball? I hope to see everyone there. Joey B will tell us more about it a little later in his report. There are 2 District positions open. We are in need of a PI/CPC Chair and an Intergroup Liaison to help carry the message. If you have any interest in these positions, please talk to you sponsor, your service sponsor, and your higher power. Remember God doesn’t call the qualified God qualifies the called. Don’t be afraid to try something new as you have the whole District behind you. The next Assembly is at the Fort Lauderdale Marriott North right here in Broward County, October 6th thru the 9th. Flyers are available on the table and on the District or Area websites for printing. Also in October please remember we will be having District Elections for a few positons starting in January 2018 such as Archives, Literature, PI/CPC, Room/Ride Coordinator, Accessibilities, Support Your Services, Institutions Liaison, and Intergroup Liaison. Please give some thought and prayer to where you may be of service next year. If you are considering standing for a Committee Chair, feel free to ask the person currently in that position to see what is involved. I’d like to welcome all who are new today and encourage you all – whether you are new or seasoned veterans in service – to find an area of our District to lend a hand. We are blessed with an active and enthusiastic District here in Broward County. Planning meetings for the Gratitude Dinner and the October Assembly hosted by District 9 are still in progress and need volunteers. I’d like to personally encourage groups to volunteer at the October Assembly. We need people to help with Registration, Hospitality, and other areas. Thank you all for your understanding, participation, and support. Remember to check the District website @district9aa.org for details on all upcoming events. Thank you all for your willingness & dedication in representing your Groups and carrying the message. See you at the Spaghetti Dinner in September.

Chair Report – JULY 2017

I’m an alcoholic, member of the Tamarac Group, and my name is Al. My sobriety date is March 2, 2004. I am honored to serve as your District 9 Chairperson. We held our Unity XII Breakfast on Saturday, June 24th. The event was sold out, the food was great, and the Speaker our own Trish C-K was amazing. Thank you Karen with Copy Kat Audio for doing the taping at the event. All those who attended the Breakfast, I’d so would like to thank you for service. We are stilling having planning meetings for the Gratitude Dinner, the October Assembly hosted by District 9, and Carry the Message Day. Support your Services also started planning for the Spaghetti Dinner, more from Joey B in his report. All committees are in need of volunteers so please feel free to attend and get involved in all the fun. The next Assembly is next week at the Hyatt Sarasota, July 21st thru the 23rd. Flyers are available on the District or Area websites for printing. Don’t forget the 61st Florida State Convention being held in Jacksonville on July 27th – July 30th the following week. The theme is “Love in Action”. Hope to see you all there. We still need a PI/CPC Chair and an Intergroup Liaison. Prayers for Stu S who had to step down from Intergroup Liaison currently battling health issues. Please keep him in your thoughts. One last thing I would like to mention is that many of you are aware of the legal attention taken by the General Service Board (GSB) and AAWS regarding the return of the 1939 Printer’s Copy of the Manuscript (“the working manuscript” as it was called had many handwritten comments written by many members of AA). No one can deny that it is a very precious item of AA History that created the foundation of this program. I would like to encourage everyone to become as educated as possible as to why New York took legal action for the return of the Manuscript. This was not done lightly so please do not jump to any conclusions or opinions one way or the other until you have prayed after reading or hearing the facts regarding this action. As you know there are many ways to hurt AA and gossip is one of them. To make sure that you know why this was done Greg T our General Manager in New York has asked that you address any questions to Clay R, Public Information Coordinator. His direct line is 212-870-3119, and his email is I pray that more will be revealed as we move forward in the sunlight of the spirit. Thank you all for your understanding, participation, and support. Remember to check the District website @district9aa.org for details on all upcoming events. Thank you all for your willingness & dedication in representing your Groups and carrying the message. See you in Sarasota. In Unity thru Love & Service, Al K. District 9 Chairperson Area 15 Panel 67. Email:

Unity XII Breakfast Report – JULY 2017

I’m an alcoholic, member of the Tamarac Group, and my name is Al. The Unity XII Breakfast was held June 24th at the Plantation United Methodist Church at 9:00am. It was a sold out event with an amazing story delivered by our own Trish C-K. Many thanks to Karen V and Copy Kat Audio who provided the taping for this event. If you didn’t have a chance to be there and hear Trish in person you can see Karen to purchase a CD for your own use. The food was great and it went off smoothly. Our menu included eggs, bacon, sausage, home fries, coffee, water, juice, and croissants. We had some leftover food which was gladly accepted by the Church for their homeless. Any extra supplies was purchased by District 9 for our Support your Services events in the form of Spaghetti Dinner Tickets in lieu of cash. Thank you Joey B for that super idea. We provided 4 tickets to BCIC & 4 tickets to Intergroup. We had our wrap-up meeting at the 12 Step House July 8th at 9:00 am. When all was said and done, each entity received contributions of $358.94. One is of concern for next year is that the church is restructuring their facilities rental program. We don’t know what the revised rental fee will be but a bigger concern is that they now state that they reserve the right to cancel the rental at any time no guarantees especially Saturday mornings. So, it may be prudent that everyone be on the lookout for a facility with a kitchen that can accommodate 250-300 people. We don’t want to get stuck with over $600 in food on our hands and no place to go. Our rent using the church for this event was a bargain at $350 and we realize that we may have to pay more next year. I asking that you please bring any possible locations for this event to our attention for consideration. It would be greatly appreciated. Thank you all for your continued support and dedication to service.
