Unity XII Breakfast Report – JULY 2017

I’m an alcoholic, member of the Tamarac Group, and my name is Al. The Unity XII Breakfast was held June 24th at the Plantation United Methodist Church at 9:00am. It was a sold out event with an amazing story delivered by our own Trish C-K. Many thanks to Karen V and Copy Kat Audio who provided the taping for this event. If you didn’t have a chance to be there and hear Trish in person you can see Karen to purchase a CD for your own use. The food was great and it went off smoothly. Our menu included eggs, bacon, sausage, home fries, coffee, water, juice, and croissants. We had some leftover food which was gladly accepted by the Church for their homeless. Any extra supplies was purchased by District 9 for our Support your Services events in the form of Spaghetti Dinner Tickets in lieu of cash. Thank you Joey B for that super idea. We provided 4 tickets to BCIC & 4 tickets to Intergroup. We had our wrap-up meeting at the 12 Step House July 8th at 9:00 am. When all was said and done, each entity received contributions of $358.94. One is of concern for next year is that the church is restructuring their facilities rental program. We don’t know what the revised rental fee will be but a bigger concern is that they now state that they reserve the right to cancel the rental at any time no guarantees especially Saturday mornings. So, it may be prudent that everyone be on the lookout for a facility with a kitchen that can accommodate 250-300 people. We don’t want to get stuck with over $600 in food on our hands and no place to go. Our rent using the church for this event was a bargain at $350 and we realize that we may have to pay more next year. I asking that you please bring any possible locations for this event to our attention for consideration. It would be greatly appreciated. Thank you all for your continued support and dedication to service.

CHAIR REPORT – MAY 2017

I’m an alcoholic, member of the Tamarac Group, and my name is Al.  My sobriety date is March 2, 2004.  I am honored to serve as your District 9 Chairperson. Our Old Timer’s Meeting was held on Saturday, May 13th here at Nova. We had 3 really good speakers with over 35 years of sobriety each. More will be revealed by our Archives Committee in just a bit. Support Your Services is gearing up for the Founders Day picnic on June 4th, so please listen carefully to Joey B’s report to find out how you can get involved and get your tickets at a discount.  He really needs your help and support as this is a big event. Additionally, we are having planning meetings for the Unity Breakfast, Gratitude Dinner, the October Assembly we are hosting, and Carry the Message Day. All committees are in need of volunteers so don’t be afraid to get involved to grow and learn. Please also see Sandy as we need help with the Delegate Luncheon and what Pot Luck foods we can tempt Annie with before she gives her report from the General Service Conference here on June 11th. We will not be having our normal workshops as the luncheon starts at 12:00 pm. You may need to get here a little early to help set up. Our District Meeting will be following a modified format to give time for the Delegate Report. I know she has been working real hard preparing her presentation. The next Assembly will be at the Hyatt Sarasota, July 21st thru the 23rd. Flyers are available on the table or can be printed from the District or Area websites. Don’t forget the 61st Florida State Convention being held in Jacksonville on July 27th – July 30th. The theme is “Love in Action”. I’m going and would love to see you all there. Please remember that we are in immediate need of a PI/CPC Chair and a Webmaster (Web Chair) so if you have the qualifications and time please consider standing for one of these position later today. Do not be afraid. Remember, God doesn’t necessary choose the qualified but qualifies the chosen. Please also listen to see what interests you when your trusted servants are giving their reports today and feel free to get involved. We can’t keep it without giving it away. In doing this for fun and for free at times we can be a little wacky but District 9’s dedication to service and carrying the message is among the best in the Area. Thank you all for your participation and support. Remember to check the District website @district9aa.org for details of all upcoming events.  Thanks to each of you here for your willingness in representing your Groups, You are the heartbeat of the District as we work together to carry the message. Always lead by example as words may not always be relied upon but actions ring true. In Unity thru Love & Service, Al K. District 9 Chairperson Area 15 Panel 67. Email:

Chairperson’s Report April 2017

I’m an alcoholic, member of the Tamarac Group, and my name is Al.  My sobriety date is March 2, 2004.  I am honored to serve as your District 9 Chairperson. We had a great Assembly earlier this Month that was hosted by District 6. There was good voter turnout to represent District 9 with 1 District Chair, 3 DCMs, 11 ACMs, 3 ALT GSRs, and 22 GSRs for a total of 40 votes. For those that were not with us, Motion A to allow the GSRs the right to make motions at the Area Level failed after considerable discussion. Many GSRs just felt they were just not ready due to their limited amount of General Service Experience on how to write motions or how that motion might affect the way we conduct our business or whether the motion would be good for AA as a whole. In any event, it might be a good idea for us to hold a few workshops pertaining to writing motions in order to better prepare our GSRs for continued service. Motion B was to form an Ad Hoc Committee to investigate whether we should petition GSO to create a new Area taking our current Area from Tampa to Key West and the Islands and splitting it east and west. This motion failed by a large margin.  My own experience was that the motion may have been too wordy and restrictive as to what the Committee would be studying. The other consideration was that there would be an additional cost to the Area upwards to $1440. I got the impression that if the motion was just to create an Ad Hoc Committee to study the feasibility of splitting our current Area into 2 smaller Areas it might have passed. The next Assembly will be at the Hyatt Sarasota, July 21st thru the 23rd. Flyers are available on the table or can be printed from the District or Area websites. Our next event will be the Old Timer’s Meeting to be held on Saturday, May 13th here at Nova in the Morris Auditorium. More will be revealed by our Archives Committee in just a bit. Support Your Services is gearing up for the Founders Day picnic on June 4th, so please listen carefully to Joey B’s report to find out how you can get involved.  Additionally, we are having planning meetings for the Unity Breakfast, Gratitude Dinner, the Assembly we are hosting in October, and Carry the Message Day. All committees are accepting volunteers so don’t be afraid to grow and learn. We are in immediate need of a PI/CPC Chair so if you have the qualifications and time please pray on it. I’ve also been approached by a GSR who wants to be Webmaster (Web Chair) but he is unavailable to be here this month. Please listen to see what interests you when your trusted servants are giving their reports today and feel free to get involved. We can’t keep it without giving it away. Thank you all for your participation and support. Remember to check the District website district9aa.org for details of all upcoming events.  Thanks to each of you here for your willingness that are representing your Groups and are the heart of the District as we work together to carry the message.

Chairperson’s Report March 2017

I’m an alcoholic, member of the Tamarac Group, and my name is Al.  My sobriety date is March 2, 2004.  I am honored to serve as your District 9 Chairperson. Today, we will have only a few key verbal Committee reports with the bulk of the meeting spent reviewing the General Service Conference Agenda items. Rest assure all reports will be included in the minutes. We will concentrate mostly on those GSC Final Agenda Items that have been designated as “Consider” or “Reconsider”. At the Conference these are of the highest priority followed by “Review” then as many of the “Discuss” items the Delegates have time to talk about. The GSC is the closest thing AA has to a government. It is where the collective group consciences of the groups passionately gather so that the general services of AA will continue now and into the future. Our meeting may stretch on a bit long, so please be patient with our presenters. For those of you who are new, GS Conference review is something do every year before the April Assembly. The GS Conference review at this meeting is the first step in helping you be aware of the various topics our Delegate will be voting on at the yearly General Service Conference in late April in New York. The recommendations made by the Delegates at the General Service Conference are called Conference Advisory Actions and will be published in the Final Report to the members. There will be more review at the Saturday 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm session at the April Assembly in Boca Raton. On Sunday afternoon of the Assembly, the Area body will have the opportunity to share the collective voice of Area 15 with our Delegate so that she can carry our educated group conscience to the Conference. It may be a late day on the Sunday of the Assembly, so be prepared to have plenty of coffee and energy beverages.  Earlier that day, we have a full slate of area reports and two motions.  If you cannot attend the Assembly, please be sure to share your group’s votes with your ACM or DCM.  If you need info on lodging or rides for the Assembly, Anne is the one to see. We are lucky that this Assembly is local so that everyone may experience the excitement of seeing the General Service trusted servants at work so I’m hoping that we have a good turnout to represent District 9. The dates are April 7th – 9th at the Boca Raton Marriott at Boca Town Center. Please remember to be in your seats at 8:30 am the morning of the Business Meeting so Jackie can ensure that you are registered to vote. Many thanks to Joey B and the entire Support Your Services team for a wonderful Spring Fling Event, the first of what looks to be an exciting year of District 9 events. Thank you to all the Committees that setup tables to carry the message and to everyone who attended for your participation and support. I hope you had fun, Also, please remember to check the District website www.district9aa.org for upcoming events.  Thanks to each of you here that are representing your Groups and the District for your willingness as we continue to work together to carry our message to the still sick and suffering alcoholic. Chairperson’s Report February 2017

I’m an alcoholic, member of the Tamarac Group, and my name is Al. My sobriety date is March 2, 2004. I am honored to serve as your District 9 Chairperson. The Final Agenda items for the General Service Conference was received from our Delegate which was email blasted to all the trusted servants on our distribution list. Thank you Sherri. There are copies on the table. Please let me know of any Spanish or French groups that may need this in their languages. When the background material is received, the Officers will split it into sections and pass it on to some Trusted Servants to for review. They will then do a short presentation at our March District Meeting to this body. Please note that the March meeting will include only a few key verbal reports with the bulk of the meeting spent reviewing the Conference Agenda items. Rest assure all reports will be included in the minutes. The presentations should concentrate mostly on the items under consideration. In that way we can be knowledgeable and provide an educated group conscience of what we want our Delegate to report to the General Service Conference for consideration. The recommendations made by the Delegates at the General Service Conference are called Conference Advisory Actions. They are published in the General Service Conference Final Report and later distributed to the members in the form of a booklet. More detailed information can be found in your Service Manual which I highly suggest you read prior to the April Assembly. It will also benefit you when our Delegate gives her Conference report to District 9. To welcome our Delegate we will be having our yearly Delegate Luncheon on June 11th. If you would like to help coordinate this event I’m asking that you please contact Sherri our District Secretary. Also blasted were the April Assembly Agenda Items to bring back to you group for consideration on the Area Motions. The April Assembly flyers hosted by District 6 are on the table and can be printed out from our District Website at www.district9aa.org. The dates are April 7th – 9th at the Boca Raton Marriott at Boca Center. Today, we have a motion which we will be voting on regarding funding of District trusted servants that also have a role as an Area trusted servant. I hope everyone has had a chance to review it and bring it back to your group for consideration. Please note that we will be holding elections today for our 2017 Gratitude Dinner Chairperson, PI/CPC Chair, as well as Webservant (Website Chair). Please join me in welcoming Gayle K who has been appointed to the position of Current Practice Chair. We worked together on last month’s motions and she has the necessary desire and willingness needed to be responsible for this position. Thank you Gayle for your service. Please remember to contact our Archives, Literature and Grapevine committees if you’d like them to set up their displays at your groups. We are an exciting and busy service orientated District always looking to carry the message so please listen carefully to the committee reports today and consider joining a committee. Talk to the Committee Chairs, ask questions. Someone once told me that “God doesn’t call the qualified, He qualifies the called!” Our first event of the year will be a Spring Fling 50’s Dance that Joey will tell us more about a little later. I hope and encourage participation at all levels. The best way to mentor new members to General Service is to lead by example so please get involve. Please do not hesitate to contact me, or any other District member, with your questions. In closing, I would like to say thanks to each and every one of you for your willingness and enthusiasm to serve District 9. Thank you all for this opportunity to serve. Chairperson’s Report Jan 2017

I’m an alcoholic, member of the Tamarac Group, and my name is Al. My sobriety date is March 2, 2004. I am honored to serve as your District 9 Chairperson. Firstly, a big thanks to our outgoing Chair John A for his leadership over the past 2 years. District 9 was amazing at the Assembly in Sarasota this past weekend. Everyone was enthusiastic, involved, and the unity was evident everywhere with 35 votes representing District 9. Thank you all for you incredible support. My knees were shaking going up to the mic to deliver our report but all went well and I made the 3 minute time limit. What a relief. You should all be very gratified of the great example our District sets. As soon as I receive the Preliminary Agenda items for the General Service Conference from our Delegate, I will send the summary to Sherri to email out. When the background material is received, the Officers will split it into sections and pass it on to some Trusted Servants to review and present to this body well before the April Assembly. There are flyers on the table for the April Assembly in Boca Raton hosted by District 6. The dates are April 7th – 9th at the Boca Raton Marriott at Boca Center. The link to print out a copy of the Assembly Flyer is http://area15aa.org/2017/01/08/april-7th-9th-2017-area-quarterly-in-boca-raton-hosted-bydistrict-6/. Today, we have some motions that we will be voting on to update our Guidelines. One of the motions regarding the Assembly Chair/Assembly Bid Chair had to be amended to ensure that there are qualifications in our guidelines for the position. We will also be filling the position of Assembly Chair today for the Assembly we will be hosting October 6th – 8th at the Marriott North in Fort Lauderdale. Please note that the election today for our 2017 Gratitude Dinner Chairperson is being postponed until February to allow everyone that wants to stand for the position the ability to stand. I have appointed Karen V. GSR Workshop Coordinator, Dana R ACM/DCM Workshop Coordinator. Both are always available to answer any questions the GSRs, Alt GSRs, ACMs and DCMs might have. Congrats to Karen for being selected to the Area 15 Quarterly Coordinators Committee. How awesome is that. I wish to extend a special welcome to all new GSRs and Alternate GSRs. You will soon see that we have an exciting and busy District that is always working to help carry the message to the alcoholic who still suffers. We are a Service orientated District for sure. As you listen to the committee reports today, please consider joining one of these committees. We also have a position open for a PI/CPC Standing Committee Chair that elections will be held later today. Our first event of the year will be a Spring Fling 50’s Dance that Joey will tell us more about a little later. You will soon see it is fun and yummy to get active in District service right away. My hope is that you all keep your electric enthusiasm and attitude of willingness as we start the New Year in service together. Let us remember that our Higher Power is in charge and that we have all come here to serve for the greater good of District 9 and AA. We know not what the future holds but if we rely on a Power greater than ourselves and be united in love and service we cannot fail. Please do not hesitate to contact me, or any other District officer, with your questions. In closing, I wish you all a Happy, Healthy, Joyous New Year. I am thrilled and thankful for this opportunity to serve. In Unity thru Love & Service, Al K. Email:
